Primary Seat Belt Bill Needs Your Support

The primary seat belt bill, HB 86 needs your support.  The bill was narrowly defeated in the House yesterday.  You may want to thank your legislator for voting for the bill, or ask him to reconsider if he voted against it.  (You can view the vote  on the bill and amendments at http://www.lrc.ky.gov/record/06RS/HB86/vote_history.pdf    The vote on the bill is the 3rd vote.)  There may be an attempt to revive it as early as today.  An amendment by Rep. Jim Stewart was tacked on to the bill exempting operators of vehicles 20 years and older from seat belt requirements.  Officials say this will result in the loss of $11.2 million in federal incentive funds.

You can email him by pulling up your legislator from this site:  http://www.lrc.ky.gov/whoswho/whoswho.htm

Or, you can call him at 1-800-372-7181 and leave a message.  An operator will ask you for your name, county and the legislator for whom you wish to leave a message.

Let's save lives and reduce the severity of crashes on Kentucky highways!
